Fraise Mow

Fraise mowing removes all unwanted grasses such as shallow rooting meadow grasses whilst retaining deeper rooting perennial ryegrasses. Removing more thatch than scarification and hollow coring, Fraise mowing also removes all contaminants such as weeds, algae and silt. Surface irregularities are removed leaving a level playing surface with no water retaining areas.

Fraise mowing is carried out using a Koro Field Top Maker which was originally designed for use in areas where pesticides are banned and the only option to clean natural turf playing surfaces is to completely strip the organic matter and re-seed.

On cricket squares this operation must then be followed up with deep scarification using a tractor mounted Graden to relieve compaction, encourage root development and break up layering in the lower soils. This will also form a key for loam application.

The new surface is cultivated, graded and ameliorated with sand or Rootzone. The pitch is overseeded with a Turfmaker seeder and pre-seeding fertiliser is applied.
